A similar approach is “recalibrating”. Look at what you do and ask “why am I doing it?”. Ask “why” a few times until reaching high enough level that is still meaningful.

Then go the opposite way. Ask “what is the best thing to do to for your highest-level “why”? What is the best thing to do this year? This month? This week? Today?

If you end up with the same action you started with — comgratulations. Often you find a better thing to do though.
